As well as joins two things of the same kind: two nouns, or two -ing forms. Before an action it takes the -ing form, not the base form: she teaches as well as writing, not she teaches as well as write.

Do not confuse this preposition with the adverb phrase as well, meaning too, which comes at the end of a clause: I'm coming as well.
