«باب ابن الملك والطائر فنزة» — the figure inventory, frozen before any English was written

Enumerated under R38's repaired inventory rule (workshop/regimes/R38-repaired-inventory.md), which R39 imports unchanged. Committed before a word of the rendering existed, and before the Knatchbull comparator for this chapter was opened.

RHYME = clause (i) · SHAPE = clause (ii), muwāzana · REPEAT = clause (iii) · ROOT = clause (iv). (a) marks a locus admitted only because framework/v0.2 §7.17 struck exclusion (a); (b) marks one admitted only because taking the union kills exclusion (b). Sentence numbers are ../collation.md §2's.

0. One tightening, declared here before the enumeration and applied throughout

A matched syntactic frame without matched morphology is not muwāzana and is not admitted under clause (ii). «فليس لك قبلنا ولا لنا قبلك» matches member for member and matches nothing in pattern; «يستصغرون … ويستعظمون» matches in pattern. Only the second is SHAPE.

This is not a change to the rule — clause (ii) says the same morphological pattern — but the five earlier chapters never had to state it, and this chapter is nearly all speech and its speech is maxim-prose, so matched frames are everywhere. Without the tightening, SHAPE would swallow seventeen further loci and stop being the same class the published-hand census (A-knatchbull-kalila §3.1) counted at 0 of 18. Those seventeen are admitted on their other grounds and listed in §2 with the class they lost.

1.1 The numbers this inventory exists to produce

count per 100 source words
loci admitted 97 7.55
of which SHAPE (muwāzana) is a ground 24 1.87
of which RHYME is a ground 20
of which REPEAT is a ground 44
of which ROOT is a ground 28
admitted only because exclusion (a) was struck 10 0.78
admitted only because the union kills exclusion (b) 7

7.55 loci per 100 words against «باب القرد والغيلم»'s 4.50 and «باب اللبؤة والإسوار»'s 4.01. As at T-kalila-qird-R38-v1 §3.1, the difference between these rates is not a measurement of anything and must not be read as one: the earlier chapters were enumerated under the pre-repair rule, and this one is enumerated by a hand that has just written §0's tightening. What can be said without a rule confound is a fact about the chapter's content: «القرد والغيلم» is mostly narrative and this chapter is, after [7], almost entirely speech, and its speech is maxim-prose — the register in which Arabic saj' is densest. Sixty-four of the ninety-seven loci fall inside the bird's five speeches.

2. The seventeen loci that lost SHAPE to §0, listed so the tightening is auditable

Each is admitted on another ground and appears above; what it lost is the muwāzana class.

F5 F9 F17 F21 F22 F29 F33 F46 F53 F60 F70 F71 F75 F84 F87 F93 and F94. All seventeen are matched syntactic frames — «لك قبلنا / لنا قبلك», «قلبي … للسانك / قلبك … للساني», «صنعت بابني ذنب / صنع بابنك ذنب» — and in several of them the members are morphologically identical because they are the same words in a different order, which is repetition, not pattern-matching.

3. The loci the rule declined, and why — R38 rule 6

sent the Arabic why declined
1, 81 لبعضهم … بعض grammaticalised reciprocal; بعض … بعض is Arabic's one another and is a property of the construction, not a repetition chosen at that place
4 طفلان يلعبان dual ‑ān on two member-ends; patterns فِعْلان / يَفْعَلان differ, two members only — below the declared threshold
8 فصاح وحزن patterns فَعَلَ / فَعِلَ differ; rawī ح / ن differs
9 لا عهد لهم ولا وفاء patterns فَعْل / فِعال differ; no rhyme; matched frame only (§0)
10 لا حمى لهم ولا حرمة ح‑م‑ي against ح‑ر‑م is not a near-identical consonantal shape; the shared letters are not in shared order
11 غفران ذنب … معرفة حق patterns فُعْلان / مَفْعِلة differ
12 الرياء والفجور patterns فِعال / فُعول differ — the same decline as «الغسل والطهور» at T-kalila-qird-R38-v1 §3.2
13 الكفور … الغادر patterns فَعول / فاعل differ
21 لطف الحقود ولينه وتكرمته ‑hu at two member-ends, members matched in neither pattern nor length — below the declared threshold
21 وحشة منه وسوء ظن به two member-ends on ‑hu; members two words against three — below the threshold
27–28 فما ذنبك؟ وما الذي يمنعك ‑ka is not at both member-ends
29 فارجع … فإنك آمن recurrence of [19]'s formula ten sentences later, and again at [26]; not localisable
30 مواقع ممكنة موجعة مُفَعَّلة against مُفْعِلة is not the same pattern; the ‑ah rhyme is the bare feminine with rawī ن / ع differing; alliteration on م is not a listed ground
33 الضغائن والأحقاد patterns فَعائِل / أفْعال differ; rawī ن / د differs
34 إماتة … تربيته patterns إفْعالة / تَفْعِلة differ
36 المكر والخديعة والحيل three patterns, none matched; no rhyme
41 مكرمة وفخراً patterns مَفْعِلة / فَعْل differ
48 في خوف ووحشة وسوء ظن patterns فَعْل / فَعْلة / فَعْل differ at the relevant members; no rhyme
50, 25 فعليك مني السلام … وأنا أقرأ عليك السلام twenty-five sentences apart; not localisable
51 بقضاء وقدر معلوم ق‑ض against ق‑د is alliteration, not a listed ground; patterns فَعال / فَعَل differ
الأوتار the chapter's frame inclusio, eighty sentences apart; not localisable

Six of these are places this hand wanted a device and the rule stopped it — «الرياء والفجور», «الضغائن والأحقاد», «المكر والخديعة والحيل», «مواقع ممكنة موجعة», «الحول والقوة», «النكبات والشدائد» — and the plain wording at those spans in the rendering is what R38 rule 4 costs.
