R34 — ornamentalist, free to add words

v0.1, pilot. The licence R32 was denied. R32 had to put its devices in at constant length, by substitution only, and RS-20260816 §10.4 wrote the consequence down as a limit: a translator inventing ornament in the wild adds words, and this run therefore says nothing about supplied ornament as it actually occurs. R34 is that licence, written as a rule.

The rule

  1. Render the sense. No fact, event, referent or evaluation may be added, and nothing in the source may be dropped. This is the constraint RS-20260816's pre-run critic imposed on R31 and R32 (its BLOCKING 3), and it is carried here unchanged: eleven substitutions were withdrawn there as denotation changes, and the population that survived is the population that run measured.
  2. Where English offers the chance, put in sound-patterning — alliteration, rhyme, matched word-shapes, or repetition of sound used as a device.
  3. Take the words you need for it. Amplification by near-synonym, matched restatement, doubling — the ornamentalist's own material. Added material must add no new fact; it may only say again, in a matched shape, what the sentence already says.
  4. The hand is not confined to the source's figures. Ornament goes where English invites it, which is what a translator working without an inventory in front of them actually does. Where ornament lands relative to the source's own figures is then a measurement, not a stipulation.
  5. Log every ornamented site: the device, its class (MAT matched shapes / REP repetition / RHY rhyme), the plain wording refused, and the word cost.

What it is applied to

Two things in this project, and the distinction matters:

What it is for

To answer the question R32 could not: is invented ornament inaudible because it is invented, or because it was starved? R32's thirteen inventions were heard by three blind seats at 0 of 13, and every one of them was necessarily a two-word pair, because a plain sentence with no spare words offers no matched members to hang a larger device on. R34 removes the starvation and leaves the invention.
