R47 — the same four lines at three placements: the source's, the tradition's, and none
v0.1, pilot. R44 plus one clause, and the clause is the instrument.
R44 (S214) requires the English rhyme to fall where the Persian rhyme falls, at the distance the
Persian put it, and forbids converting a قطعه run into couplets. It answered can it be carried and
what does carrying it cost. It could not answer the third question — is it heard — because the
task built to ask that one saturated (RS-20260823-run-depth §7, method note (brb)).
The rebuild needs something R44 does not produce: the same content, by the same hand, with the
same rhyme, at two different placements and at none. A regime is the honest place to produce it,
because then the three renderings are written together, before any evaluation exists, rather
than manufactured afterwards by whoever wants a result.
The rule
- Rules 2, 3, 5, 6, 7 and 8 of
R44are carried over unchanged and outrank everything added here: - Render the sense. No fact, event, referent or evaluation added; nothing dropped. A rhyme bought with a word the Persian has not got is a refusal, not a rhyme. - Enumerate before choosing, and write the enumeration down, whether or not it yields. - Grade every rhyming position mechanically withtools/rhyme_pairs.pyafter the hand has written its own reading down, both standing where they differ. - The hand does not revise a rendering to move a grade. - Prose stays prose and verse stays verse. - Freeze the log before any evaluation is designed and before any published hand is opened. - The rendering of record is
R44's — the rhyme where the Persian put it, at the Persian's distance, odd lines of a قطعه left bare. This is the translation this span files as its artifact and the only one gradedHELD/SHORT/REFUSED/UNREACHABLE. - At every قطعه run of depth ≥ 2, the hand additionally writes two declared variants of the same
four lines, at the same sitting, from the same Persian:
-
NEAR— the tradition's answer: each bayt rhymes within itself, so the English rhymes at line-ends 1–2 and 3–4. The rhyme family of the second couplet must be the family the record rendering carries, so that the last line can end in the same word under both placements. -BASE— no English line-end in the unit rhymes with any other. - At every such run the hand writes two candidate final words for the last line —
w+, which completes the rhyme, andw−, which does not — both defensible on rule 1's sense clause alone, matched in syllable count where English allows it, and both recorded with the reason each is acceptable. The last line is identical under all three placements up to that one word. If no acceptablew−exists, the locus is declaredNO-ALTERNATIVEand supplies no item; if no acceptablew+exists, the run isUNREACHABLEunder rule 2 and likewise supplies none. - The variants are not translations of record and are never filed as such. They are instrument
material: the artifact page prints them under a heading that says so, and no claim about the
published tradition, about
NEARas a way of translating, or about the quality of any of the three is made from the fact that the hand wrote them. - Everything in rule 3 and rule 4 is written before the experiment that uses it exists, and the log is frozen and committed before the design is written. That ordering is the whole point of putting this in a regime.
What R47 is not
It is not a claim that the three placements are equally good English, and it is not a
recommendation of any of them. It is the minimal apparatus for asking whether the placement of a
chime — not its presence — reaches a reader, and if ARM-run-depth comes back saying the placement
reaches nobody, R47 will have been the instrument that established that R44's instruction is not
worth giving.
The known limitation, declared here rather than discovered later. One hand writes all three
placements and that hand knows what the experiment asks. The design's protection is not the hand's
good faith: it is that the forced choice is within a placement, between two renderings that
differ in exactly one word, with the identical word pair carried across all three placements — so
that a general preference for one of the two words shows up in BASE and is subtracted.
