Source manifest — 煙管 (Kiseru / "The Pipe"), sections 一 and 二
Not a canon member. This is a source text fetched for one unit (E-20260730-grain-clause, S061) and frozen before anything was written about it. It is recorded here with the same provenance discipline canon members get, because the unit's site census is computed from it.

One emendation, and it is a tool defect worth naming
tools/fetch_aozora.py reported gaiji images: 1 resolved to characters: 0 left as ※[#…] and stripped: 1 and its output contained no marker at the site: the character had been deleted. Located by hand in the raw HTML — section 二, paragraph 13:
後年「天保六歌仙」の中の、主な rôle をつとめる事になった男である。
The Aozora file carries ê as a gaiji image (1-09/1-09-64.png, alt="※(サーカムフレックスアクセント付きE小文字)"), so rôle — a French word in a 1916 Japanese text, and part of the passage's texture — arrived as rol. Restored. This is the S051 defect class (tools/fetch_aozora.py silently deleting characters from the canon) recurring in a milder form: the tool counts the stripped gaiji but does not say what or where, so a reader who does not go back to the HTML cannot recover it. Reported, not fixed — T6 work is a gate on the unit it blocks and nothing is blocked, since the character is restored here.
Witnesses
One witness only, and it is declared rather than glossed over. Previous sessions collated two witnesses where a second free text existed (S-alfred-preface-text, wang-liulang). There is no second free electronic text of 煙管; the 底本 is a commercial paperback the project cannot reach. The single emendation above is from the Aozora file's own alt attribute, not from a second witness.
Why this passage
Realia-dense in a way that exercises all four of C15's tests and its standing constraint at once: established English borrowings (大名, 幕府), a shared-practice equivalent (煙草, 質), two measures (百万石, 両), offices and ranks with no English counterpart (参覲, 大廊下詰, 御数寄屋坊主, 拝領), and a class of rank terms whose members recur — which is what the standing constraint ("one handling per class") is about. Selected for that property before the census was built and before a word was translated.
