The canon
The stable comparison set of short modern Japanese prose works (charter §3): once frozen, it stays fixed so translations produced under different regimes and framework versions remain comparable over time. Selection criteria and the member list are in decision D-20260723-02 (resolved 2026-07-23 — six-work canon ratified; per-work manifests below). Membership changes only by a new decision citing evidence of a defect, never by drift.
Layout, one directory per work: workshop/canon/<work-slug>/ containing
source.txt— the full source text, UTF-8, from Aozora Bunko (PD), with ruby/annotation markup stripped and the stripping method noted in the manifest.manifest.md—type: manifest; author with dates, first publication, Aozora card/file identifiers and retrieval date, public-domain verification (Japan rule per charter: author's death + 70 years; show the arithmetic; note US status where known), text length, known published English translations (for precedent-anchor and contamination awareness), and any text-condition notes.
No work enters the canon before its manifest's PD verification is complete.
