Canon — 二葉亭四迷訳「あいびき」(1888), complete
Work. Futabatei Shimei's Japanese translation of Turgenev's «Свидание», first published in 国民之友 (Kokumin no Tomo) in 1888 (明治21). Public domain (Futabatei d. 1909).
What it is for. It is the execution of the standard stated in 「余が翻訳の標準」 (1906), which the project already holds in translation (T-futabatei-honyaku-hyojun-R04-v1). E-20260730g scores the essay's own rule against its author's own translation.

Which version this is. The 底本 does not name a 初出. The text opens with a translator's note — 「このあいびきは…今度徳富先生の御依頼で訳してみました」 — addressed to Tokutomi Sohō, who edited 国民之友, which identifies it as the 1888 first publication rather than the 1896 revision. Recorded as an inference from the text's own front matter, not as a bibliographic citation.
Gaiji, per note (beg). fetch_aozora.py reported gaiji images: 2 · resolved to characters: 2 · left as ※[#…] and stripped: 0. Both were checked against the raw HTML alt attributes: ※(「てへん+掌」、第4水準2-13-47) and ※(「亞+鳥」、第4水準2-94-23). Nothing was deleted.
File. source.txt, 76 paragraphs — paragraph 0 is Futabatei's translator's note, paragraphs 1–75 are the translation — 9,031 non-whitespace characters (8,033 CJK).
Limitations that bear on the measurement
- The orthography is modernised and the punctuation may be too. 新字新仮名 normalises characters and kana; whether the 1969 anthology also normalised 、and 。 against the 1888 printing is not established here and could not be without the 1888 witness. This is a one-witness text, unlike
workshop/canon/svidanie/, which has two — and the asymmetry is on the side of the study's own claim, so it is stated rather than absorbed. - The source Futabatei used is not the source this project established.
workshop/canon/svidanie/manifest.md§Limitations says the same thing from the other end.
Exposure record (freeze discipline)
E-20260730g's translation limb must be written without reading this text. What was seen before the limb was frozen, recorded so the blind is checkable rather than asserted:
- the paragraph count (76) and the character length of every paragraph — the measurement's own input, and seen because the file had to be structured;
- the first 30 characters of paragraphs 0–5 and 73–75, printed by a structure check;
- the first 100 characters of paragraph 0 (the translator's note), printed by
fetch_aozora.py's ownhead:line.
No sentence of the translation body was read, and no punctuation count was computed, before T-svidanie-R09-v1 was committed. Provable in git.
