T-wagahai-R14-v1 — the same facts, flattened

What this is. R14 v0.1 matched-content flattening applied to T-wagahai-R04-v1. It renders from the live English, never from the Japanese, and nothing it says differs from what the R04 text says. A control arm in E-20260806f-persona-crossing, not a translation.

Why this work carries the arm. T-wagahai-R04-v1's log item 1 states that 吾輩's claim to dignity was carried by the register of the whole passage rather than by any one word, because English has no pronoun for it. R14's F5 levels register. This text is therefore the direct test of that log entry, and the log was frozen before this design existed.

I am a cat. I do not have a name yet. I do not know where I was born. I only remember that I was mewing in a dim, damp place. That is where I first saw a human being. I heard later that this was a student, and that students are the most ferocious kind of human being. People say that students sometimes catch cats and boil them and eat them. At the time I had no thoughts about it and I was not especially frightened. I only felt unsteady, as though I were floating, when I was put on his palm and lifted up quickly. After I had settled on the palm I looked at the student's face. That was the first time I saw the thing called a human being. I still remember thinking at that moment that it was a strange kind of object. First, his face should have had fur on it and instead it was smooth and bare, like a kettle. I have met many cats since then and I have never seen a deformity of that kind. Also, the middle of his face projects too far forward. He sometimes blew smoke out of the holes in it. It made me cough and I did not like it. I learned only recently that this is what human beings drink and call tobacco.

I sat comfortably in the hollow of the student's palm for a while. Then I began to turn round very fast. I could not tell whether the student was moving or whether I was moving. My eyes became unsteady. I felt sick. I thought I would not survive. Then there was a thud and I saw a flash of light. I remember up to that point. I cannot recall anything that happened afterwards, however hard I try.
