Response to the pre-run critics, finding by finding

Two seats, disjoint labs, neither used by the run: C1 openai/gpt-5.6-terra ($0.053473) and C2 x-ai/grok-4.5 ($0.050660), $0.104133000 total, cap 12000, neither truncated. Both NEEDS-REDESIGN. Raw bodies: runs/RS-20260902-rhyme-slot/raw/critic_C1.json, ..._C2.json. 19 findings, 5 BLOCKING. Dispatched before any other call of this run.

ACCEPTED = the design changed. ACCEPTED-AS-LIMIT = the design did not change and the result page carries the objection. REJECTED = with a reason.

# seat grade finding response
1 C1 BLOCKING CONSTRAINED is a Persian lexical category, not a measured English rhyme obligation; the contrast can arise with no English rhyme involved ACCEPTED. The predictor is replaced by the English landing line's own rhyme status, and the primary is the FREE-only B-vs-D contrast, where Persian word class is constant. v2 §The amended design
2 C1 BLOCKING Alignment-free location means the measured word need not belong to the marked hemistich's line, so d cannot identify displacement from that source position ACCEPTED, by dissolution: the amended predictor is a property of the line the sense landed in, so no alignment is required for the primary. MIGRATION is registered separately for Payne, whose renderings are bayt-for-bayt
3 C1 MAJOR d is moved by ordinary English line construction — terminal function words, inversion, feminine endings ACCEPTED in part. TERMPOS (function-word share of line-final tokens, by line type) is registered and reported. Metre and enjambment are ACCEPTED-AS-LIMIT
4 C1 BLOCKING Conditioning on located items is selection bias ACCEPTED. New gate W1b withholds the primary if the two compared cells' location rates differ by > 0.10, and ALLITEM reports the primary with NONE scored as not at end
5 C1 MAJOR The gloss seat can infer qāfiya position and may gloss those words differently ACCEPTED in part. New gate W6 on gloss length parity. And the amended primary uses FREE senses only, where the objection does not reach. ACCEPTED-AS-LIMIT for the strata that do use CONSTRAINED senses
6 C1 BLOCKING The within-rendering permutation is invalid: labels are not randomly assigned or exchangeable ACCEPTED in full. The permutation is withdrawn. Intervals are cluster bootstrap over renderings; every contrast is reported as observational and no causal language is used of any published hand
7 C1 MAJOR The permutation treats correlated within-rendering items as independent; poems recur across hands ACCEPTED, by the same change — the bootstrap resamples whole renderings
8 C1 MAJOR W1 can pass under differential non-location; W4 is misdefined because a line's last content word need not be at d = 0 ACCEPTED. W1 raised to 0.30 and applied per cell, W1b added, and POSBIAS now probes a line whose last token is a content word
9 C1 MAJOR W5 matches only means, and an attenuated non-reversing result is still allowed to support the claim ACCEPTED. W5 now requires the length-adjusted figure to be reported beside the raw one, and withholds the primary if they disagree in sign
10 C1 MAJOR The radif exclusion is outcome-adjacent, removes a real realisation of the constraint, and the 57→43 path is under-specified ACCEPTED. The 14 English-radif renderings are restored as a pre-specified stratum; the sample is 56 renderings and the OCR screen is the only screen left. F3 tests sign reversal on that stratum
11 C1 MINOR No prediction is arithmetically forced, but P2/F2 lack a hand-level decision rule and P3 is loosely related ACCEPTED. AT-END governs; mean d is secondary and if they conflict the result claims neither; F2 states the hand-limitation rule explicitly
1 C2 BLOCKING Alignment-free location severs Persian COND from the line whose rhyme obligation is supposed to act; make the predictor the landing line's observable rhyme status ACCEPTED — this is the amendment's central change, and C2 states the remedy in the words v2 adopts
2 C2 BLOCKING CONSTRAINED/FREE confounds English monorhyme pressure with Persian lexical differences; the only unrhymed comparator is one contaminated lead pair ACCEPTED for the first half (see C1-1). For the second: the project cannot reach independent translators; the lead pair stays descriptive and the result says so
3 C2 MAJOR On a rhyming line AT-END ⇔ the rhyme word carries the sense, so the primary largely rediscovers step 1's R ≈ 0.04 ACCEPTED, and it is the sharpest finding of the pass. The estimand is changed to the B-vs-D contrast (new) and to P2, the distribution of dq among non-final carriers (also new). Neither is a re-measurement of R
4 C2 MAJOR d is moved by sound-chosen terminals, metrical padding, inversion, function-word endings; measure position relative to the rhyme word ACCEPTED. dq, distance to the qāfiya slot (the token before the END-BLOCK), is defined and reported beside d; TERMPOS registers terminal word class
5 C2 MAJOR The permutation leaves many-glosses-to-one-line dependence and differential locate rates intact ACCEPTED — permutation withdrawn (C1-6), W1b added (C1-4)
6 C2 MAJOR Free location credits cross-line migration as position in the landing line ACCEPTED in part: MIGRATION is a registered reported quantity. REJECTED as a restriction on scoring — a couplet-bounded window would re-introduce the alignment assumption C1-2 and C2-1 both call fatal
7 C2 MINOR The gloss seat sees which marked words are qāfiya as C1-5
8 C2 MINOR W1's floor is below step 1's in-line rate; W5's 2-token gap is routine; X-MIS is skipped ACCEPTED on all three. W1 → 0.30, W5 strengthened, and X-POS is bought: step 1 §6's mismatch prior is about presence and does not cover position, so v1 was wrong to treat it as covering this

The one thing both critics asked for that this design cannot do

Both name the same ideal: matched unrhymed English renderings of the same ghazals by hands that are not the lead (C2-2), ideally under randomly assigned instructions (C1, single most important change). That is the experiment this question deserves and the project has no way to run it — there are no independent translators to commission, and the one hand available conceived the outcome variable before writing a line. The design's answer is to take the contrast inside the published hands' own pages, where an OPEN line and a RHYMING line sit in the same poem by the same translator, and to say plainly that the result is observational. The lead's R59 pair is reported as an illustration with its breach declared, not as the missing arm.
