T-ved-vejen-R14-v1 — the same passage with the Class A devices removed

§1 The text

Paragraph numbers below are the segment ids of the experiment, not source paragraphs; the source paragraphs each segment covers are in §4.

[S1] Things had also been quieter at their place recently. Huus no longer came so often now that it was spring, and, as he explained, he had a great deal to do. And when he did come, his temper was uneven as well. It happened repeatedly that he seemed not to notice how glad Katinka was to see him, and he talked mostly with Bai, although Katinka had a great deal that she wanted to say to him and to ask him about. This was just in the spring, when there had been so much to arrange and to alter everywhere.

[S2] But there was something the matter. Perhaps he was also not content at the farm at Kiær's, and it was said that he was so odd to work with. Her own spirits, for that matter, were heavy from time to time as well, and this was probably because she was sleeping too little.

[S3] She stayed in the sitting room in the evening while Bai was undressing, and he would drift about half naked for so long, sitting on the edge of the bed and keeping up a talk, and would never be done. Katinka found it wearisome that he never settled and never made an end of it.

[S4] And when she came to bed herself and lay in the dark beside Bai, who slept deeply, she could not fall asleep and felt an unease, so that she would get up again and go into the sitting room, where she would sit by the window while the night train rushed past and the great stillness lay over the field again. There was no sound and no breath of wind in the summer night. Then the first grey glimmer of day would come, and a cold, damp air would strike up from the meadows, and it would grow steadily lighter while the larks began to sing.

[S5] Huus had said that he was very fond of seeing the morning come, and he had described how it was in the mountains when morning came. He said that it was like a mighty golden-red sea, half so of gold and half of roses — about all the summits, and that the peaks sailed like islands in the great sea. Then, little by little, all the mountain tops stood on fire, and then the sun came and rose and swept the darkness out of the valleys as with a great wing.

[S6] He often told such stories now, things from his travels; on the whole he talked more now, when he talked at all. It grew quite light, and Katinka was still sitting by the window, but she supposed that she had better go to rest. The air was heavy in the bedroom, and Bai lay there, having thrown the blankets off himself.

[S7] When Huus came in the evening, they mostly sat in the elder arbour, where they watched the eight o'clock train go. A solitary farmer had trickled out onto the platform, and he greeted them as he went past and drifted off home. Then they went down into the garden, where the cherry trees stood in bloom, and the white petals slid like a bright glittering rain through the summer air down onto the lawn. They sat quiet and looked out at the white trees, and it was as though the evening's awaited silence over the plain wrapped itself about all things. Up in the town a gate was heard being slammed to, and the cattle called out across the fields.

English words: 586.

§2 Class B assertion — the seven image-bearing strings, byte-identical in both arms

Checked by analysis/checks.py, which reads both frozen files and asserts each string is present in each. A run in which any of these differs is a run about imagery and reports itself as such.

id string held identical
B1 like a mighty golden-red sea, half so of gold and half of roses — about all the summits
B2 the peaks sailed like islands in the great sea
B3 all the mountain tops stood on fire
B4 swept the darkness out of the valleys as with a great wing
B5 the white petals slid like a bright glittering rain through the summer air down onto the lawn
B6 the evening's awaited silence over the plain wrapped itself about all things
B7 night train · larks · elder arbour · eight o'clock train · cherry trees · meadows · cattle

One declared exception, recorded rather than hidden. ../device-census.md §1 lists halvt… halvt at ¶12 under device A11 (doubling repetitions). That site sits inside string B1, so it is held with B1 and not manipulated: A11 is manipulated at 3 of its 4 sites (¶9, ¶10, ¶17). The consequence runs against this experiment's own hypothesis — one marked phrase survives into the flattened arm — and it is left in because removing it would have touched an image.

§3 The operator table — every site, this being the translator's log for this artifact

Operator ids are R14's where they apply (F1 cadence levelling, F3 repetition flattening, F5 register levelling, F6 connective explicitation) and are extended with F7–F10 for the four Class A devices R14 v0.1 has no operator for. F2 and F4 are not used.

Twenty-four sites over sixteen devices. Nothing in the table changes a referent, a sense, a negation, a quantity, a tense, a modality or an item of content. Two operators are declared as adding words rather than deleting them, per R14 §The operators: F6 supplies connectives (so that, while, and) that state relations the Danish leaves the reader to feel, and F7 supplies attribution (as he explained, she supposed that) for free indirect discourse. These are the two the experiment's independent propositional-parity control exists to adjudicate, and RS-20260807f §5 limit 4 is the reason it is stated here in advance.

§5 Amendment A1, 2026-08-08, adopted from the pre-run critic before dispatch

E-20260808d's pre-run critic (nvidia/nemotron-3-ultra-550b-a55b, non-panel) returned NEEDS-REDESIGN, and its BLOCKING 1 charged that the flattening was not content-neutral because F6 supplied causal subordinators the Danish does not state. Three sites did exactly that and have been changed before any rating was dispatched:

site was is
S1 because, as he explained, he had a great deal to do and, as he explained, he had a great deal to do
S2 at Kiær's, since it was said… at Kiær's, and it was said…
S3 while Bai was undressing, because he would drift about… while Bai was undressing, and he would drift about…

Two other explicitations were checked against the Danish and kept, because the Danish asserts the relation itself: Det kom maaske ogsaa af, at hun sov for lidt (S2, came of) and saa hun stod op igen (S4, so she got up). The remainder of the critic's BLOCKING 1 — that free indirect discourse, paragraphing, understatement and the impersonal man are not form-only because they change narrative mode — is overruled with a reason on the design page: narrative mode is form, and it is the form this experiment exists to manipulate.
