Why this poem, and the rule was fixed before a line was written
Three conditions, all checkable before any English existed:
- It is one of the 28 odes Walter Leaf translated in 1898 — his ode XV — so Leaf's own
printed metre assignment is available for it: his table (book pp. 19–20) puts XV in
metre 2,
⏑ – ⏑ – ⏑ ⏑ – – ‖ ⏑ – ⏑ – ⏑⏑̄ –, the second commonest metre in Hafez (142 of 573 ghazals by his count). A rendering under Leaf's contract needs the metre from Leaf, not from the lead's own scansion of the Persian. - Its radif sits in the cell
framework/v0.2§7.36.1 calls unreachable — a transitive finite verb — and it is the one item of that cell inRS-20260829-radif-hands§4 that no published hand carried: Leaf declined it here, and Payne 1901 vol. 1 stops at ode CC, so Brockhaus 234 is outside his reach. The published record therefore holds no counter-instance at this item. - It is not
sh118orsh124, the twoداردghazals S232 rendered, so the poem is new to the project.

| 7b | مَگَر دِلالَتِ این دولَتَش، صَبا بِکُنَد | unless the dawn breeze does the guiding of him to this good fortune |
The structural fact the rendering turns on. In seven of the eight rhyming positions the
qāfiya is the noun of a light-verb compound whose verb is the radif (کار کردن, دفع کردن,
تلافی کردن, خدمت کردن, دوا کردن, دعا کردن, دلالت کردن). In the eighth (5b) the qāfiya
خدا is the subject. So English can only put the word rendering بکند last by moving the noun
in front of it — the line-end inversion RS-20260829b-inversion-price priced at 2.407 points of ten
in plain lexis. The poem cannot be rendered with the radif carried and the inversion avoided.
No published English of this ghazal was fetched, opened or read before the renderings below were
written and frozen. Leaf's ode XV sits inside the OCR file this session stored, and the
extraction script that reads it was run after the freeze; the contamination measurement in
dependence-note.md uses Leaf's complete book, ode XV included, as the comparator.
