OED.com — March 2025 update pages, direct check (via reader-proxy workaround)
- Author: Oxford English Dictionary editorial staff (unsigned institutional pages)
- Publication: OED (Oxford University Press), oed.com
- Date: March 2025 (page content); this project's earlier sessions' direct
WebFetchattempts (session 39 and this session) both redirect to an OAuth login wall — see Gaps - URL: https://www.oed.com/information/updates/march-2025/ and https://www.oed.com/discover/march-2025-update/ and https://www.oed.com/discover/new-words-from-around-the-world-oed-march-2025-update/
- Type: primary (the OED's own update pages), read only partially — see Gaps
- Accessed: 2026-09-05
Extract
- New method that got past the standing login-wall fence for two of the three pages: fetching via the
r.jina.ai/reader-proxy prefix (e.g.https://r.jina.ai/https://www.oed.com/information/updates/march-2025/) returned readable page content instead of the OAuth redirect that directWebFetchhits every time. This is a genuinely new workaround for the standingoed.comfence, worth trying again on other words' OED leads. oed.com/information/updates/march-2025/andoed.com/discover/march-2025-update/, both read via the proxy, show the same "Recently added" list of 16 headwords for the March 2025 update cycle: kaypoh, K-12, detransitioner, romantasy, watchalong, love job, crocheter, watch party, rowie, floor director, chapulin, coronating, charismatical, dancerly, drop lock, wadey-buckety — plus a "Word of the Day" (omurice, glossed "a Japanese dish consisting of a thin omelette topped with ketchup and filled with rice") and 16 "Recently updated" entries. Komorebi does not appear on either page.- This "Recently added" list of 16 appears to be a generic rotating-widget sample, not the full ~600-word/42-loanword update batch reported by secondary press coverage (see the other source pages filed this session) — it is a partial view of the update, not proof by itself that no other word was added.
- The third, more specific URL —
oed.com/discover/new-words-from-around-the-world-oed-march-2025-update/, the page this project most wants to read directly, since secondary sources attribute the gigil/loanwords story specifically to it — did not yield its actual prose content through the same proxy method: the proxy returned only the same generic 16-word "Recently added" widget content as the other two pages, not the article's own text about regional loanwords. This page's actual content remains unread directly; the standing fence is only partially broken.
Gaps
- The specific "new words from around the world" article — the one page that would resolve the komorebi question directly and completely — was not successfully read through the proxy workaround; only its generic site-chrome content came through. A future session should retry this exact URL with the same or a different proxy method, since the "information/updates" and "discover/march-2025-update" pages did work.
- This does not by itself prove komorebi was not added — see the companion source pages this session (
kumasensei-2025-japanese-words-oed.md,thedailyjagran-2025-oed-march-words-scope.md,aarp-2025-new-dictionary-words.md) for the corroborating secondary-source evidence that closes this lead.
