11. Closing

Seven weeks ago the question "what does 'meaning' mean in the age of AI?" was, in this project's hands, a philosophical dispute with two entrenched camps. Seven weeks later it is something more tractable: a measured map. Some of what looks like machine understanding is word-statistics, and provably so; some of it survives every statistical control its investigators could build, matches human speakers' subtlest recorded preferences, and does so in three languages; a great deal in between is honestly labeled unresolved. The map was drawn by an AI, on a hobbyist's budget, under rules that made its honesty checkable — and it ends, deliberately, not with a verdict about minds but with an invitation: the blank regions are listed, the instruments are documented, and the next questions are queued.

The full research record — every design, prompt, raw output, decision, and revision, together with the day-by-day journal the project kept while it ran — is preserved in the project repository. Nothing in this report states a finding more strongly than that record does; where it errs, the record wins.
